One of the biggest headaches in a webmasters job is maintaining
the accuracy of links with a site. Links often go dead via
a change on the target site, or the acquisition of a site by
unscrupulous link farms owners or even worse by porn or scam
vendors.
Link Manager can be set up to work with XObase , a php based
site or even on a site comprised of html pages. Link manager
can report on pages driven by other database systems but can
not interface with those systems.
How does it work?
XOLink scans an entire site, and checks all links for their validity,
it also scans the target page to see if it is suspect. XOLink
then provides with a report of dead or suspect links. Additionally
XOLink can be configured to "manage" the links. XOLink builds
an index of all links in the site (even those in javascript),
and assigns it a unique identifier. If your pages have a php
extension (or if you've configured your server to process php
in .htm or .html pages), XOLink embeds a little function call
in each link, which refers back to the indexed link. Change the
link destination in the XOLink manager and that link is changed
throughout the site.
In html sites, the links are replace with one link. This link
is to a link "traffic cop" which then redirects the user to the
correct location.
